As a manufacturer of quality nutritional supplements, UNNZ maintains
very strict cleanliness standards in our processing plant. These
include requirements for daily-cleaned white work clothing, frequent
disinfecting of hands, boots and tools, as well as air filtration
and sluice systems to protect the environment from dust and other
contaminants.
UNNZ's commitment to exceptional quality is reflected in our
implementation of an HACCP Quality Assurance Program. HACCP (Hazard
Analysis Critical Control Point) is a systematic, preventative,
science-based food safety control system originally developed
by NASA for the US space programme. The system is internationally
recognized as the most effective method for assuring food safety
and is being mandated in the EU, USA and Australia, as well as
being voluntarily adopted in countries like Canada and New Zealand.
Under this system, UNNZ monitors and documents the physical, microbiological
and/or chemical condition of the plant, supplies, materials and
products at identified "Critical Control Points" at
each step in the manufacturing process. Procedures are in place
to take corrective action when monitoring indicates intervention
is necessary. Our HACCP programme is audited by the New Zealand
Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and includes ongoing staff
education to ensure that the highest standards are maintained.
Testing From drying to packing, tests are carried out in-house
to confirm quality and reliability of our operators and machines.
These include mesh tests after milling and fill weights after
encapsulating and tabletting using New Zealand Trade Weights &
Measures standards for domestic products and British Pharmacopoeia
Standards for export products. Capsule and tablet count tests
are also conducted and documented on an ongoing basis.
All microbiological testing and chemical analysis of raw materials
and products in process are carried out by the Cawthron Laboratories,
an independent, New Zealand accredited laboratory registered with
the IANZ auditing body.
